Currently I work at AFRY as a project manager in environmental planning. In our team we are mainly involved in the planning of various construction projects in the infrastructure or energy sector. We ensure the implementation of and compliance with national and European nature conservation laws.
My main task is the surveying and recording of protected species (especially birds, bats and butterflies) as well as the conception and coordination of compensation measures for the protection of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora.
Katrin Hohwieler

I am currently finishing up my PhD at the University of the Sunshine Coast, studying the genetics of koalas in order to improve their conservation management. My lab group is also a consultancy which deploys scent detection dogs to find scats of different endangered species, which is such an incredible and fun tool.

I attended the Spring School right after I finished my Ph.D. and learned a lot of skills I could have already used for my project. However, after a short periode as a Postdoc I now work for a federal agency as science communicator in the field of climate change and adaptation. For this job, I use the skills of the spring school on a daily basis, cause a whole federale state of Germany is my ‚project area‘ and my job is to help to transform it to a resilient and sustainable state. Without the Spring School I propably would have been overwhelmed with this project goal, however I learned how do brake tasks into small pieces and work them out.
