Week 1
Following an introduction and get together, we kick off with a week-long hands-on workshop on project planning and management. Analysis, planning, budgeting, proposal writing, and fundraising will be the key themes of this long but important module.
Week 2
The second week will offer you the chance to apply your new-found planning knowledge to real-life conservation scenarios. At the end of the week you will get an introduction to monitoring and evaluation.
Week 3
The third week will begin with an interactive experience of the world of financial management—from acquisition and expenditure to budgeting and risk management. You will also have modules on public relations and communications as well as human resources. Furthermore, you’ll discuss the importance of environmental & social safeguards, human rights, and the role of indigenous peoples and local communities in the project context.
Week 4
The final week will cover the exam but also includes two enlightening excursions. First, you’ll visit the KfW Development Bank, which is the world’s largest financier of protected areas and one of our Frankfurt Spring School partners. Then, you’ll journey to the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park to see and hear first-hand how a conservation strategy is enacted and implemented. Additionally, you will have modules on leadership and personal skills. At the end of the week, the Frankfurt Spring School will conclude with a closing event at the Frankfurt Zoo.
